Discover What’s Possible With Your Oakville Dentist
Full-Mouth Restoration for Advanced Tooth Wear and Erosion

As an Oakville dentist, nothing makes me happier than helping someone transform their smile. When helping you smile with confidence, my goal is to keep as much strong, healthy tooth as possible. I’d rather sacrifice some thickness or strength in the restoration instead of sacrificing the strength of the remaining tooth. You can always replace a restoration, but if the tooth fractures severely because it’s over-prepared, then you’d need a dental implant to replace it – a much more costly and invasive procedure.

This video case study outlines a full-mouth restoration for advanced tooth wear and erosion. This is one of my favourite cases from the past few years because it showcases what is possible with porcelain dental crowns, veneers, onlays, and bonding.

When I met this patient, there was severe tooth wear and erosion. The pattern of wear you can see in the video was caused by drinking Coca-Cola. If consumed daily over many years, Coke can cause severe erosion as you can see in this case.

We only worked on the teeth from the bicuspids (premolars) forward because that’s where the tooth erosion was most severe. The erosion was significant on the tops of the teeth and the insides, so I needed to ensure all of these surfaces were covered.

You’ll notice that many of the teeth in the before pictures had lost their white appearance and had turned yellow. This is because the enamel had completely worn off so you could see the yellow dentin inside the tooth. For these teeth I used an old-school hand-designed method of designing on stone models instead of digitally designing and milling them. I think these are some of the most beautiful restorations I’ve been able to make in 30 years of practice.

For the second bicuspids and upper molars, there were only small spots of erosion, so I was able to treat these areas with white filling material instead of extensively preparing these teeth for porcelain dental crowns.
